What carries the most consequential night journey across the Islamic world? Scholarship on the Dome of the Rock and the Prophet’s Israa and Miraaj has largely privileged the sacred rock and gilded exterior, leaving the dome’s structure as an assumed support.

This project reads that structure instead as a field of accumulation, recording nearly thirteen centuries of dynastic change, seismic damage, repair, reinforcement, replacement, and adaptation. The permanent installation materializes this layered history through a half-scale fragment model that gathers all known structural phases within a single form. Installed at Ras Al Ain Park as a lighting pole above a stone seat, wood and steel become material indices, each registering a distinct moment of technological capacity and political intention.
